eCommerce – Realising the Opportunity

The internet and eCommerce can bring real market opportunities to businesses in County Waterford. In 2006 an additional 20,000 customers used broadband every month in Ireland. One third of Irish people say that they use the internet each day, while 42% use it several times a week. Yet many Irish businesses do not use the internet to conduct business, and when they do they use it to buy rather than sell.

E-Commerce opens up a wide market for a businesses products and services. To help businesses understand the opportunity, Waterford County Enterprise Board is hosting a seminar eCommerce – Realising the Opportunity. The Enterprise Board has invited high-profile experts on doing business on-line to speak at the seminar.

  • Fearghal O'Byrne (adobe .pdf, 2,184 kbs) is the Chief Executive Officer of the Irish Internet Association and was instrumental in setting up eircom.net. He is author of the book ’10 Online Marketing and Search Engine Essentials. 
  • Maeve Kneafsey (adobe .pdf, 2,346 kbs) , Managing Director of Elucidate, has advised high profile clients such as An Post, First Active, Eircom and Permanent tsb on their eCommerce Strategy. Meave understands the requirements of smaller organisations and she recently advised clients of Waterford County Enterprise Board. 
  • Ian Tilson (adobe .pdf, 3,058 kbs)  is a graduate of Waterford Institute of Technology and is a Personal Account Manager with eBay, one of the world’s largest eCommerce portals.
  • Ian O' Sullivan (adobe .pdf, 474 kbs) , founder of Dungarvan business suceess i-to-i will also speak on his experience in eCommerce. According to Ian O’Sullivan, eCommerce is central to the success of i-to-i.
