Kilmacthomas

Kilmacthomas Kilmacthomas is located against the backdrop of the Comeragh Mountains, just off the N25 National Primary Route linking Waterford, Dungarvan and Cork. Community facilities in the town include primary and secondary schools, a substantial sports/community hall and playing fields.

Kilmathomas is located in close proximity to mountains, lakes and waterfalls, thus, offering wonderful hill walking and climbing opportunities. The town is also adjacent to the Copper Coast area of County Waterford, a scenic stretch of coastline extending from Stradbally to Tramore. The uniqueness of the place is recognised by UNESCO with its granting of European Geopark status to the area, one of only two places in Ireland to acquire this status.

Historically, Kilmacthomas is renowned as the home of poets Tadhg Gaelach Ó Suilleabháin, now recognised as one of the finest classical poets of Europe and Donnachdha Rua Mac Conmara. Both are buried in the vicinity. It is also the birthplace of Tyrone Power, great-grandfather of the Hollywood star of the same name.
